Vice President (President Elect)

The President Elect serves as the backup President and assumes presidential responsibilities if the President cannot fulfil the responsibilities for any reason. He/She serves in a high level role to oversee the general operation of the Chapter and its Board.

Key Responsibilities

  • File all changes to the Chapter’s Bylaws and Amendments with PMI’s Executive Office.
  • Work with the President to prepare the semi-annual Chapter report for submission to the PMI Vice President – Chapter Activities.
  • Execute or assign responsibility for execution of contracts, deeds, bills of exchange, and other instruments and documents on behalf of the Chapter with the approval of the Board of Directors.
  • Prepare the annual application for Charter renewal which must be submitted by the Chapter President to the PMI Headquarters.
  • Direct the preparation of an Annual Report to the Chapter members including coordinating submissions from other Board members.
  • Assist the President in coordinating and expediting the activities of other Board members, including issuing of action oriented minutes within 3 working days of Board meetings.
  • Maintain and deliver all permanent records, and providing guidance/assistance to the position successor as required.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as described in the Strategic Plan and/or Policy documents.
  • Create new and/or update existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Policies pertinent to the portfolio (as necessary and identified in the Strategic Plan).

Length of Appointment

  • A 3 year commitment.
  • The President Elect is required to serve one year as Presdeint Elect, the subsequent year as President and the third year as Past President. In total, a President Elect is required to make a commitment to be on the Board for a period of three years.

Time Commitment

Approximately 20 hours per month.

  • Attends Board meetings each month
  • Attends dinner meetings (5 per year)
  • Execute responsibilities of position and other related duties

Qualifications and Skills

  • Board level experience and strategic, long-term thinking ability.
  • Demonstrable leadership track record.
  • Extensive knowledge of the PMI organization.
  • Extensive knowledge of the PMI Vancouver Island Chapter, its purpose and the services it offers to its members.
  • Must have served previously on a PMI Board of Directors, ideally PMI Vancouver Island Chapter.
  • Excellent communication and people management skills.
  • PMI and PMI-VI Chapter member in good standing.
  • CAPM, PMP or other professional designation preferred although not required.
